Löwenströmska Park

A long history from the age of Gustav III.

In 1792 Jakob Johan Anckarström fired the deadly shot against Gustav III at the masquerade at the opera house in Stockholm. Ten years later the Löwenströmska hospital was built and the area was presented to the state.

Gustav Adolf Löwenström´s name used to be Anckarström. After the murder of the king he changed his name to Löwenström, as he didn´t want to be connected with the murder of the king. Building the hospital was a way of atoning for his brother´s crime.
